Last year (2016) we took a family vacation to Wyoming to visit Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. I meant to post information about the trip online a long time ago, but I've been very busy with other matters that kept me away from this website. While I plan to continue writing on my usual topics of interest, I am adding travel reviews, journals, and vacation guides to the … [Read more...]
Yellowstone/Grand Teton Review, Day 11 – Leaving Town and Sitting on Planes
The only direct flight from Jackson Hole Airport to Atlanta was at 8:00 a.m. Normally this would not be difficult at a small airport in a small town. However, the staff at Dollar Rent A Car said we needed to be at the car rental office before 5:30 am at the very latest to return our car and be on their shuttle to the airport at 5:45 am. They claimed that since it was a small airport, the TSA … [Read more...]
Yellowstone/Grand Teton Review, Day 7 – Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, Mammoth Springs Dining Room, Albright Visitor’s Center, and Stops on the Way to Signal Mountain Lodge
Although the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel was quiet during the night, the hallways were rather noisy in the morning. This was not due to unruly guests, but due to the hotel's design. The hallways are long and solidly built, but with high ceilings and widely spaced walls. The tunnel effect seemed to amplify sounds, making noises louder when people were hauling their bags down the hallway to check out … [Read more...]
Yellowstone/Grand Teton Review, Day 6 – Grant Village General Store, Mammoth Springs, Mud Volcano, Dragon’s Mouth Spring, and Other Fun Stops

However, we decided to get breakfast at a small fast-food style restaurant located inside the Grant Village General Store. This turned out to be one of our best breakfast decisions of the trip. Eggs cooked how you want them, sausage patties, bacon, hash brown cakes, and flapjacks (pancakes) … [Read more...]
Yellowstone/Grand Teton Vacation Review, Day 5 – Old Faithful Snow Lodge, West Thumb, Grant Village, Lakehouse Restaurant
While I still get up early during vacations, my wife and children usually like to sleep late - especially if they stayed up late the night before. This vacation routine was interrupted by housekeeping at Old Faithful Snow Lodge, who decided to bang on the door repeatedly at 8:30 a.m. Considering how far down the hallway we were from either entrance, I am reasonably certain we were not even close … [Read more...]
Yellowstone/Grand Teton Vacation Review, Day 4 – Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Family Inn Restaurant
We managed to get out of our room at Jackson Lake Lodge by the 11:00 a.m. checkout time. This got us downstairs and outside in time for the raptor show being put on by the Teton Raptor Center. Although we missed most of the programs like this, the Jackson Lake Lodge appears to host many educational events on a regular basis. The one put on by the Teton Raptor Center, which included several large … [Read more...]
