Wyoming Vacation in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks

September 22, 2017 by pfeifer

Last year (2016) we took a family vacation to Wyoming to visit Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. I meant to post information about the trip online a long time ago, but I've been very busy with other matters that kept me away from this website. While I plan to continue writing on my usual topics of interest, I am adding travel reviews, journals, and vacation guides to the … [Read more...]

Yellowstone/Grand Teton Review, Day 11 – Leaving Town and Sitting on Planes

The only direct flight from Jackson Hole Airport to Atlanta was at 8:00 a.m. Normally this would not be difficult at a small airport in a small town. However, the staff at Dollar Rent A Car said we needed to be at the car rental office before 5:30 am at the very latest to return our car and be on their shuttle to the airport at 5:45 am. They claimed that since it was a small airport, the TSA … [Read more...]

Yellowstone/Grand Teton Review, Day 10 – Jackson, Snow King Lodge, Jackson Town Square, 4th of July Parade, Snow King Mini-Golf, Town Square Shootout, Jackson Hole Rodeo and Fireworks

Our first night sleeping at Snow King Lodge was great. Although I stayed up late as always, I fell asleep quickly in the big comfortable bed. Out of the entire trip, the beds and pillows at Snow King Lodge were the best. I probably could have slept through the entire morning had I not been awakened by an early-rising noisy neighbor banging around in the next room. Everyone else slept through it, … [Read more...]

Yellowstone/Grand Teton Review, Day 9 – Signal Mountain Lodge, the National Museum of Wildlife Art, Jackson Square, Moos, and the Snow King Resort

September 21, 2017 by pfeifer

I woke up just before 5:00 a.m. and watched the sun rise from our cabin window. They do sunrises and sunsets very well at the Signal Mountain Lodge. The morning sky was cloudy, which made the sky look all the more impressive. We cooked breakfast in our room again, taking advantage of the last time on our trip that we would have access to a stove. The next time I take a vacation in the … [Read more...]

Yellowstone/Grand Teton Review, Day 8 – Signal Mountain Lodge, Colter Bay Village, Ranchhouse Restaurant, Jackson Lake, Donoho Point, Elk Island

September 21, 2017 by pfeifer

After a night of deep sleep at Signal Mountain Lodge, I awoke early and enjoyed the quiet of the morning. While it is fairly easy to hear through the walls, everyone was either sleeping or trying to be polite. I went to get coffee from the barista at their general store, which was about the same price as getting coffee at Starbucks. However, the taste was probably better even if the coffee … [Read more...]

Yellowstone/Grand Teton Review, Day 7 – Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, Mammoth Springs Dining Room, Albright Visitor’s Center, and Stops on the Way to Signal Mountain Lodge

September 21, 2017 by pfeifer

Although the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel was quiet during the night, the hallways were rather noisy in the morning. This was not due to unruly guests, but due to the hotel's design. The hallways are long and solidly built, but with high ceilings and widely spaced walls. The tunnel effect seemed to amplify sounds, making noises louder when people were hauling their bags down the hallway to check out … [Read more...]
