About.com Law Practice Management Guide

I apologize for the scarcity of posts on this site over the last few months. One of the reasons the Stubborn Writer site has been neglected recently is that I’ve added a new website to the list of sites where I write, and it has taken some time to adjust to the new responsibilities along with everything else I try to do in a day. A few weeks ago I became the new Law Guide for About.com, with the assigned task of writing a website about issues that are of interest to lawyers in their professional careers. Not long after starting the site, we changed the name from Law to Law Practice Management, in keeping with what was already the site’s primary focus.

While this commitment may seem like a bad sign for the Stubborn Writer website, it is actually just another step in the right direction. I have been interested in writing for About.com for many years, and writing a website for lawyers is right up my alley. The opportunity was too good to pass up.

The new Law Practice Management website is located at law.about.com. While it is a more serious website than this one and won’t have articles like Why Your Lawyer Won’t Return Your Phone Calls or Black Robe Disease, it will have substantive articles that will be helpful to lawyers on a practical level. Some of the topics covered include law practice management, law firm marketing, law office technology, legal ethics, and other issues to help lawyers in their work.

So the Stubborn Writer had to go to the backburner for a while, but the good news is that Stubborn Writer will be an active site again soon. Some design upgrades are being implemented, which will be followed with plenty of snarky posts about whatever happens to annoy or interest me. Also, we will finally be launching that product line we promised months ago, so keep an eye out for how you can buy your own Stubborn Writer gear.  Big things are on the way!

Harry Potter vs Jedi Knight

I don’t know who RackaRacks is on YouTube, but he made (or at least shared) a really well done video called Harry Potter vs Star Wars. There isn’t much setup or plot. The video contains an opening segment that lasts only a few seconds before a battle breaks out between two video game players who […]

Yellowstone/Grand Teton Vacation Review, Day 4 – Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Family Inn Restaurant

We managed to get out of our room at Jackson Lake Lodge by the 11:00 a.m. checkout time. This got us downstairs and outside in time for the raptor show being put on by the Teton Raptor Center. Although we missed most of the programs like this, the Jackson Lake Lodge appears to host many […]

Do You Do One Space or Two After the Period?

An issue that generates a surprising amount of argument is whether one should hit the space bar once or twice after a period. People pay no attention to some of the most important issues of our time, but disagree with how they think a document should be typed and they will be ready to take […]

Image via Wikipedia What better way to warm up in February than with a copy of the 2010 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition? This year’s Sports Illustrated (SI) cover model is Brooklyn Decker, who has appeared in bikini photos in the magazine each year for the last five years. We have included a series of Brooklyn […]

What is a photocopier? Hilarious video from a real deposition transcript.

We all think we know what a photocopier is, but in a lawsuit the precise definition and use of a term can be critically important. The video linked below is a dramatization of the testimony from a real deposition in which an attorney tries to pin a clerk down on precisely what he understands a […]

Black robe disease – why the abuse of power is rampant among judges and the American judiciary

Black robe disease (also known as black robe syndrome) is a condition which is not widely known to the general public, but which every trial lawyer in the country could describe in great detail if they were not too afraid to speak out against judges suffering from it.   It afflicts those lawyers who have reached […]

What We’re Doing Now

Although the Stubborn Writer website was once very active, other demands have caused it to be somewhat dormant for a long time. However, we are pleased to announce that we are bringing the site back into action – this time with a new focus. The primary purpose of this site when it was created was […]
