Miley Cyrus lap dance video – aka, much ado about nothing

The website is creating controversy over a video from a year ago showing a then-16-year-old Miley Cyrus giving an alleged lapdance to then-44-year-old Adam Shankman, one of the hosts of “So You Think You Can Dance.”  Shankman is openly gay, and to call this a lapdance video is quite an overstatement.  To read the stories circulating online, you would think that Cyrus was having sex with Shankman on top of a table.  In reality, it appears to be nothing more than mediocre dancing by both of them.

The so-called Miley Cyrus lap dance video, which appears at the end of this article, shows her dancing with Shankman in a crowded room.  Yes, her butt does bump up against his crotch for a short time during a portion of the dance, but this type of dancing is pretty standard fare at any nightclub in the country.  It would be described as a lapdance only by a person who has never actually received one.   And did we mention that Shankman is openly gay?

Attacking Miley Cyrus over allegedly sexual behavior seems to be pretty typical conduct for any website looking to boost their traffic.  And I’m sure that there will be an obligatory series of apologies from Cyrus and Shankman, commentaries from tv psychologists, and condemnation from the religious right (who still couldn’t resist watching the clip) before this controversy is pushed aside for some other lame story.

The video is much ado about nothing, but apparently there is an entire industry built around exploiting the growing teen sexuality of Miley Cyrus.  She has been “caught” (for lack of a better word) doing much worse, though nothing that anyone without an agenda would call particularly bad.  While nothing she has done even remotely compares to the antics of Brittany Spears or Lindsay Lohan, she is already being lumped into the same category as them by writers seeking to blow the story out of proportion.  If you think this video is bad, you obviously haven’t watched MTV in the last 20 years.

If you want to watch it, the Miley Cyrus “lapdance video” is below.
